This is the week where you, me, and everyone we know is receiving emails about setting big hairy audacious goals for 2021.
I love setting goals. However, this has been such a strange year that I’m adding an extra step to my 2021 goal-setting process. You may want to join me and do the same.
In addition to setting goals, I’m putting a lot of thought into what I need to dump and leave behind in my life.
A lot of people believe that “things” have to change for their lives to improve. My attitude is that I have to change if I want to achieve my goals in 2021 and beyond.
The changes I intend to make involve leaving behind specific habits and beliefs that will no longer serve me during these turbulent times.
In this week’s video, I share what these changes are and how going through this process can benefit your book marketing in 2021.
To find out how to break down what you need to leave behind,
watch this week’s Book Marketing Copy Quick Tip video.
Leave Behind Beliefs, Habits, and People
No one wants 2021 to be anything like this year has been. So as you set your goals for 2021, it’s a good time to determine if there are any beliefs, habits, or people you need to leave behind to make this coming year a success.
This week’s year-end video is about leaving the craziness of 2020 in the rearview mirror and making some New Year’s course corrections. Here are some of the key points you’ll hear me cover.
Beliefs
Have lockdowns and other disruptions filled your head with negative beliefs that you need to leave behind as you head into 2021?
Perhaps you have a limiting belief you can turn into a positive one. For example, prior to 2020, I struggled with the notion that I need to find more balance between my work life and my personal life.
However, by being forced to spend so much time at home this year, which is where I work, I realized that separating my work time from my personal time is pretty difficult.
So heading into 2021 I’m focused on how I can integrate my work and personal lives into one energizing and productive life, instead of struggling to live two separate lives.
Habits
Has the craziness of 2020 made you question how some of your habits could impact your ability to achieve your 2021 goals?
Here’s an example of what I mean. I love baseball. I grew up playing it every day in California, and I still enjoy watching it on TV.
However, this year I began to question whether it was a good use of my time to spend over three hours watching a baseball game when I could simply watch a five-minute highlight package of the game the next morning.
With so many people struggling, I decided that spending hours watching people who make $30,000,000 a year to play a game I used to play for free wasn’t the best use of time.
So I’ve decided to change my “baseball habit.”
Instead of watching full games, I’m going to just catch the condensed game highlights online. This will free a lot more time to do things that improve my business and my life.
People
This is always a tough area in which to make changes in your life. But sometimes you have to do it. I’m a big believer in the old saying that you’re the average of the five people you hang out with the most.
I’ve noticed that a couple of the people with whom I interact the most have developed a real doom and gloom attitude about the future.
I remain very optimistic about the future, and I’m determined to interact in 2021 with people who feel the same. This means I may have to make a few changes in regards to the five people I “hang out” with the most. This won’t be easy, but it may be necessary.
Do you need to make a similar change in 2021?
Again, I cover the above points in more detail in this week’s year-end video, so I urge you to watch it.
Happy New Year and take a lot of action and make things happen!
Casey
