There’s no doubt about it. Developing great sales writing skills is essential to your marketing success. However, equally essential is your mindset. To put together winning marketing campaigns you must have a strong belief you will succeed. And it really helps if you can get yourself to feel as if you’ve already accomplished your goals.
Before I ever create a word of copy for my clients, I already know I’m going to write some really good stuff! This mindset is a constant for me, and it’s why I’ve been able to consistently write attention-getting sales copy for nearly 20 years.
When it comes to having a strong mindset, never sell yourself short. Always think big.
As a small child you intuitively had big dreams. You didn’t dream about growing up to be a local city council member. You dreamed about being president of the United States.
You didn’t dream about being a good player on your local softball team. You dreamed about being an all-star major league baseball player.
You didn’t dream about being an actress in a small play at a 70-seat theater in your local strip mall. You dreamed about being an academy-award winning actor in a major motion picture.
And, you fully expected to receive these things. Nobody discouraged you because you were a little kid. But then as you got older you were told it was “time to grow up and think realistically.”
Do you think folks like Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg and Bill Gates listened to this lousy advice? Of course they didn’t and neither should you.
As a kid, you dreamed big and expected your dreams to come true. It came natural to you. Recapture this intuitive gift you were born with and apply it to your content writing and marketing goals. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain by thinking big. So just go for it!
Remember, it takes no more thought to dream about a castle than it does a button. If you think all of this sounds a little silly, let me ask you this one simple question: How many times in your life have used this expression?
Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
I’m guessing you’ve used it many times. The reason you have is because deep down inside you know it’s true. So forget about button-size thoughts. Think big and go for it!
